Frequently Asked Questions

Can I just get digital images on a disk for half your basic package price?

We pride ourselves on offering heirloom quality finished products. That’s because we believe that a wedding day deserves more than a few thousand unedited images dumped onto a disk or USB. We know for a fact that there are many brides who set out to make their own albums from scratch, yet never get around to the task because it is incredibly time consuming and requires a specific skill set.

Also, if you are willing to hire a professional photographer, we believe you should receive professional quality photo art in return. We want you to have an album you can hold in your hands many years from now, not simply a few fleeting images to be posted to social media then quickly forgotten. And we want your children and grandchildren to enjoy that album too, even after Facebook and Instagram have been displaced by new trends.

What is your style and your strengths?

We capture your wedding as lifestyle photography. Every image is part of the story of your special day, combining portraiture with an element of high-fashion poses; architectural and environmental photography; and detail photography that searches for the small objects and moments that matter most.  See our Wedding Photography Style page for more details.

We want to hire you and would like to keep our images private, meaning no internet postings whatsoever.  Is that possible?

Yes, it certainly is.   For clients who are concerned about privacy, we can prepare a non-disclosure agreement for a small additional fee whereby we guarantee that no image of yours will ever be made public by us unless you want it to be.

Do you do “the pop”?

If you’re talking about de-saturating your photos and only leaving isolated areas with color (such as eyes, flower bouquets, wedding shoes), the answer is no.

Our photography stands on aesthetic traditions, not on gimmicks or passing trends.

Do you do “first looks”?

Yes we do. We’re always up to the challenge of capturing the moment when the bride and groom see each for the first time on their wedding day.

You provide the emotion, we’ll take a great image.

Do you do Mohonk?

We live under the shadow of Mohonk and know it well. Just like many other venues in the area.

How soon after my wedding do I get to see my photos?

Our turnaround time for proofs to be posted in your online gallery is 2 weeks. We do offer a 24-hour web album service which will allow you to see and share select photos from your event within 24 hours.

Do you have insurance?

Yes. Our certificate can be provided upon request.

What kind of equipment do you use?

We use high-end Nikon cameras and gear.

How soon should I book?

As early as you’re sure you love our style and want to work with us. As we move into the peak season for weddings, dates will get booked pretty quickly.

Can you pencil me in?

In order to secure your date, you’ll need to complete and sign our retainer agreement. This must be returned to us with a standard retainer of $1000 for all wedding photography packages.

How does the retainer work?

The retainer is non-refundable and secures your wedding date with us. It is due at time of booking.

How do I pay?

By credit card, cash, or a check / money order payable to “Duetimage Photography”.

Can I do installments?

The full standard retainer of $1000 for all wedding photography packages must be paid at the time of booking. The balance is due thirty (30) days before your wedding date. If you book less than 30 days prior to your event, then payment must be made in full at the time of booking.

Do you offer discounts?

Occasionally, we offer discounts on our Promotions & Discounts page. We also offer discounts to those who’ve received our referral card from our clients.

Do you charge sales tax?

We are required by New York state law to collect sales on behalf of the government on all products delivered for use in New York state. The rate is calculated based upon the sales tax rate in the county of delivery.

How come other photographers told me they don’t charge sales tax?

If these are photographers doing business in New York state and delivering finished photo products for use in New York state, then they are in violation of New York state tax law. As a New York based business, Duetimage Photography must comply with state law.

I’m the mother or best friend of the bride. Can I book your services for her?

It is our policy to deal exclusively with the bride and groom to make sure that our style and their photographic needs match up. Also, the bride herself will need to sign our booking agreement. If you are the one actually paying for our services, this arrangement can be worked into the agreement.

Can I surprise the bride and groom by hiring you?

Please see the answer to the question above. We’d also like to add that simply showing up at the wedding with cameras in hand would be extremely awkward. Photographing a wedding and getting good results takes advance planning and prior consultations with the bride and groom. The wedding couple will still appreciate the gift of wedding photography even if they know about it before their wedding day. In fact, by letting us know their needs, they might appreciate it even more.

Why use a professional photographer when my friend can shoot on an iPhone?

Sure anyone can take a great photo with an iPhone or a point-and-shoot camera. But depending on how you will be looking at your photos in a year, 5 years, or 10 years after your wedding is another matter.

That great iPhone photo might not look so fantastic blown up as 16×20 print. And it might not look so great in a photo album either, when it’s side by side with a lot of other smartphone photos.

Also, does your friend with the iPhone do the post-processing? Does he know about color correction? Preparing a digital file for print? Does he know how to archive photos and make sure they don’t get lost?

These are all serious questions you will need to ask yourself when thinking about how you want your children and grandchildren to see images from your very special day.
